• I dissuaded from the black exchange. In the center of Dar Es Salaam one is addressed again and again, but the few Shilling more are not worth the risk. Usually after the deal the tourist has few small genuine banknotes and a lot of worthless paper in the hand ...
• To the topic "security" I can refer only to the mentioned travel guides, since to more caution will turn out there, than I consider from my experience  ... the authors necessary however probably also more background knowledge have.
• The government´s decision (December 2004) to raise fuel prices (up to 20 %) has sparked a domino effect with carrying companies following suit by hiking fares. For tourists travaling is cheap further on, but for the most locals it is a heavy financial burden.
• Internet costs (03/2004) 700 TSH/h
• Postage for postcards to Europe amounts to 400 TSH
• As it for years Dar Es Salaam is booming (new roads, reconditioned houses, increased cleanliness), unfortunately the Stonetown from Sansibar is going to rack (more dirt, spoofing tourists became a popular hobby).
