Start English News & Hints Dar Es Salaam

Dar Es Salaam

  • The "Salamander" (popular travler meeting place with good breakfast possibility) does not any longer exists. There mobile phones are sold now.
  • The formerly best hotel in the city "Kilimanjaro" is down-managed and was now finally closed. Thus unfortunately also the restaurant on the roof-terrace.
Refurbished in 2006 by the Kempinski chain of hotels, the Kilimanjaro is now a rather chic and upmarket place.
  • The Embassy hotel is closed too. (03/2004)
  • A ride by taxi from the airport into the city costs 15000 TSH (you must exert much at the price to press ... approx. 12000 TSH are feasible). Required of the city to the airport the same price, whereby it is simpler here usually to beat down the price (approx. 10000 TSH). Trips in the city centre cost 1000...1500 TSH (at night +500 TSH).
  • Recommendable accommodation: Kibodya Hotel (Samora Ave., near Clocktower, simple double with fan and en suite approx. 8000 TSH), Jambo Inn (Libya Street, double without AC approx. 15000 TSH, with AC approx. 25000 TSH), Hotel Continental (Nkrumah Street, mostly somewhat loud, double en suite & AC 20000 TSH), Starlight Hotel (Bibi Titi Mohamed Street, double en suite & AC 36000 TSH)
  • The restaurant "Alcove" (finest Chinese and Indian kitchen, Samora Ave.) I mention here times praising, since it is good for years. It belonged to the elevated price range, is worth an attendance (converted 5-10 $ for enormous good portions ... are naturally also still nobler and more expensive meals on the card).
